Day 9
– Fly Melbourne to Hobart
This morning you will be transferred to Melbourne airport to fly to
Hobart. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel
for your 3 nights stay.
ACCOMMODATION - The Henry Jones, an art deco hotel located on Hobart’s waterfront on an old jam factory site, dates back to 1804. The hotel houses rooms and suites all uniquely different and furnished with the hotel’s history and contemporary art at the forefront of each space.
With the River Derwent at its heart and Mount Wellington rising above it, in Hobart, the tranquility of a city from a bygone era coexists with the vibrancy of a pocket-sized modern metropolis. The city's European beginnings are evident everywhere, from quaint settlers' cottages to the lofty porches of colonial mansions. Once bustling with whalers and entrepreneurs, 19th-century sandstone warehouses now serve as dockside cafes, artist’s studios, and restaurants, where visitors can enjoy excellent cuisine and fine wines.
Late afternoon, you will be transferred to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary for your private evening tour.
Bonorong Park was established in 1981 as a sanctuary for injured and orphaned wildlife. Owner Greg Irons has had a lifetime passion for animal rehabilitation and releasing animals back into the wild. The Bonorong Night Tour is a feeding tour with a private guide. Every participant has plenty of opportunity to interact with the critters. You will enter our animals’ world and experience hand-feeding weird and beautiful creatures like Eastern quolls, tawny frogmouths, and sugar gliders. You will also help give the Tassie devils their dinner. First, it’s dinner time for the daylight dwellers, and then the nocturnal animals get their breakfast. A particular highlight is meeting the mob of friendly Forester kangaroos. You will also meet some incredible survivors, as many animals are recovering from injury or are orphans. Your guide will show you how you are helping Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary get them back into the wild. It will be a journey of incredible (and often very moving) fun.
