Self Drive - Tasmania Explorer
Tasmania has a varied network of open highways and country roads ready for you to explore. The island’s a compact place – so you can get where you want, easier than you think. We recommend at least 5 days to tour the Island and recommend the following itinerary which can be adapted to suit any duration:

Day 1 - Arrive Hobart
Explore Hobart, visit Battery Point, Salamanca Place and the Mt Nelson lookout. Dine in one of the superb seafood restaurants in Battery Point.

Day 2 - Port Arthur
Drive via Richmond, site of Australia’s oldest bridge to the Tasman Peninsula. Visit the Port Arthur historic site – one of the first penal settlements in Australia. Stay in Port Arthur for dinner and the evening ‘ghost tour’ of the historic site or make your way back to Hobart.

Day 3 - Hobart to Freycinet National Park
This morning travel up the East Coast to the Freycinet National Park and the shores of Oyster Bay. In the afternoon enjoy the stunning walk through light forest up to the famous Wineglass Bay lookout.

Day 4 - Freycinet National Park
At leisure to enjoy Freycinet Lodge and surrounds. Choose from scenic guided walks, 4WD tours, fishing and boating.

Day 5 - Freycinet to Launceston
This morning drive to Tasmania's second city, Launceston, a city of graceful streets adorned by elegant Victorian and Edwardian facades and surrounded by beautiful countryside. Visit Cataract Gorge, Waverley Woolen Mills, the Wood Design Collection at the Design Centre of Tasmania, or visit the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery.

Day 6 - Launceston to Cradle Mountain
Drive to Cradle Mountain National Park, stopping off at the town of Sheffield en route to see the murals that cover the town’s buildings. Cradle Mountain is a haven for walkers and hikers.

Day 7 - Cradle Mountain
At leisure to explore Cradle Mountain National Park. Visit Dove Lake and one of the many guided walks available.

Day 8 - Cradle Mountain to Devonport
Drive to Devonport for your onward flight to your next destination
